Certified Baby Signs® Instructors can teach Baby Signs® parent workshops, infant and toddler play classes, and other enrichment classes for families with children from birth to age 5.

Q: Is the Baby Signs® Instructor training self-paced?

Yes. New instructors complete a self-paced training program using written and video materials that can be completed from home on their own schedule.

Q: Do Baby Signs® Instructors receive ongoing support?

Yes. Certified Baby Signs® Instructors receive ongoing support at no additional charge. Support is available by email, phone, and virtual meetings, along with access to instructor resources, e-newsletters, group support opportunities, the private instructor community, the Instructor Support Site, and marketing tools.

Q: Will I be listed on the Baby Signs® website?

Yes. Certified Baby Signs® Instructors may be listed in the Find a Class directory on the Baby Signs® website so families can search for instructors and classes in their area.

Q: Do certified Baby Signs® Instructors receive discounts on additional products?

Yes. Certified Baby Signs® Instructors receive up to a 50% discount on additional Baby Signs® products. This allows instructors to purchase materials for classes, workshops, events, and resale opportunities at a discounted instructor rate.

By becoming a certified Baby Signs® Independent Certified Instructor (ICI), you can join our growing community of instructors teaching worldwide. Baby Signs® ICIs include educators, speech-language pathologists, social workers, therapists, interpreters, parents, child development professionals, and those who enjoy working with children and families. Many instructors teach at community-based hospitals, state programs, parenting programs, child development centers, community centers, and other children's health and educational organizations, including Child Development Centers on US military bases around the world.

Training

Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn have developed clear and complete lesson plans for all Baby Signs® workshops and classes. Even inexperienced teachers will feel confident because they have the tools to deliver exciting and informative classes. We provide training in infant sign language, early childhood development, and a certification to teach the Baby Signs® Program.

As a new ICI, you will receive a self-paced training program consisting of written and video materials that you can complete at home on your schedule.

Support

All Independent Certified Instructors have free access to Baby Signs® Support Resources. The Baby Signs® Program maintains an Instructor Directory, so families can contact their local instructor for class information. New ICIs are provided information about starting a business, creating a marketing plan, and giving exciting classes and workshops. Instructors offer support and encouragement to each other through chats, emails, and daily discussion boards. In addition, ICIs can easily access the Instructor Support Site and download forms, fliers, marketing materials, and other essential documents.

How do I become a certified Baby Signs® Instructor?

To become a certified Baby Signs® Instructor, you complete the Baby Signs® Instructor Certification Program, which includes self-paced training materials, video instruction, written resources, and curriculum support so you can teach Baby Signs® classes and workshops in your community.

Agencies and organizations that want to certify a group of instructors may also arrange a live, 2-day in-person Baby Signs® Instructor Training. This option is designed for organizations with multiple staff members who want to offer Baby Signs® classes, workshops, or family engagement programs in their community.

Who can become a Baby Signs® Instructor?

Do I need to be fluent in American Sign Language to become a Baby Signs® Instructor?

No. You do not need to be fluent in American Sign Language to become a Baby Signs® Instructor. The Baby Signs® Program is based on ASL and focuses on teaching useful signs for hearing babies and toddlers before they can talk. Instructor training includes video instruction, a video dictionary, and curriculum materials to help you learn and teach the signs used in Baby Signs® classes and workshops.

What training materials are included in the Baby Signs® Instructor Business Kit?

The Baby Signs® Instructor Business Kit includes the core curriculum materials and training resources needed to begin teaching Baby Signs® classes and workshops. Instructors receive Parent Workshop, Sign, Say & Play® and MORE Sign, Say & Play™ curricula, English and Spanish handouts, instructor music, training videos, the video dictionary, the program introduction video, marketing materials, and access to the online training portal.

This optional add-on allows instructors to work with child care centers, early learning programs, family service agencies, and community organizations that want to incorporate the Baby Signs® Program into their classrooms, staff training, and family engagement programs.

As a preschool teacher caring for Infants and toddlers, you can imagine how frustrating it can be trying to figure out what they are trying to say. After taking Baby Signs® and getting certified as an instructor,  I implemented  infant sign language into my classroom room daily routine. Let me tell you this was a GAME CHANGER, not only did it help to communicate with the little ones, it also prevented a lot of tantrums and meltdowns.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I bought a Baby Signs® Parent Kit when I had three children under the age of three and an in-home childcare provider. I had never signed before, my self-esteem was low, and I was barely staying above water. With in a few weeks of starting signing, our dynamics totally changed. I was effectively communicating with my children and childcare children which boosted my self-esteem. They were also effectively communicating with each other, resulting in minimal tantrums and fights. I became a Independent Certified Instructor shortly after that. When one of my daughters started having seizures, I was able to work with her through sign to attain more information to give doctors. She was successfully diagnosed and treated early without any long-term effects as a result. The support I received from other instructors was HUGE! I was constantly watching for clues from children to effectively communicate. That carried over into other areas of my life. I started picking up on unintentional cues from others. This has helped to avoid numerous potentially dangerous situations and keep us safe. The Baby Signs® Program has changed our lives in more ways than I can count. I cannot recommend it enough! I did my first Parent Workshop (PW) this year! It was a very small comfortable start for me, with 5 people present (3 families represented). I am scheduled to teach more classes this Fall, and I am looking forward to it! Seeing the joy on the faces of the families during the PW was not only a joy, but quite rewarding.
