When should I start baby sign language?

You can start whenever you’d like—many families begin around 6–9 months, but it’s never too early to start modeling signs. Some parents even begin from birth to build the habit. Just like talking, your baby may not respond right away, but they’re learning and taking it all in.

How long before my baby starts signing back?

Every baby is different. It depends on your baby’s interest in communicating, their development, and how consistently signs are modeled. Most babies begin signing between 10–14 months, though they understand signs much earlier. If you start younger, it may take a little longer to see those first signs, but once your baby makes the connection, progress often happens quickly.

Will baby sign language delay speech?
