Meet Elaine Langsam: Enhancing Communication with Baby Signs® in NYC

Elaine Langsam has been a dedicated Baby Signs® instructor since 2009, bringing her expertise in early childhood education to families across New York City through libraries, hospitals, and virtually. With a Master’s Degree in early childhood education and a minor in Psychology, Elaine teaches a variety of Baby Signs® classes, including Parent Workshops, Sign, Say & Play® classes, Early Childhood Educator training, and On The Grow™ classes for parents and babies from birth to five years old.

Background and Journey:

Elaine’s journey with the Baby Signs® Program began when she transitioned from her full-time role as an early childhood educator. A friend introduced her to the Baby Signs® Program, and Elaine quickly recognized it as a perfect fit for her skills and passion. She connected with other instructors nationwide, and their experiences inspired her to embark on this rewarding path. Despite a slow start, Elaine persevered, driven by the joy she witnessed in families who discovered a new way to communicate with their babies, reducing frustration and tantrums.

Inspiration and Impact:

Elaine’s passion for early childhood education shines through in her Baby Signs® classes. She loves interacting with families and gets excited when parents share stories of their children beginning to sign, enhancing communication and bonding. One of her most gratifying moments occurred while teaching at a Kindercare location, where teachers reported that children were using signs during the day, and parents were enthusiastic about the classes. One class even created a bulletin board to celebrate their progress!

Benefits of the Baby Signs® Program:

Through her extensive experience, Elaine has observed the profound impact of Baby Signs® on infants and caregivers. The program helps reduce frustration and tantrums by providing babies with a means to express their needs effectively. This enhanced communication fosters stronger bonds and a more harmonious environment.

Memorable Moments:

Elaine recalls a particularly memorable moment during a class at a public library. While teaching the sign for “moon,” a toddler suddenly signed “moon” back to her, making her day and highlighting the immediate and tangible benefits of the Baby Signs® Program.

Advice for Parents and Professionals:

Elaine encourages parents and professionals to embrace Baby Signs®. She believes it will significantly ease daily life and reduce stress, creating a more enjoyable experience for both caregivers and children.
